The Role
Reporting to the Head of Legal for Willis Towers Watson’s Central European, Middle East and African (CEEMEA) business, you will support Willis Towers Watson’s legal needs across the region, including its (re)insurance broking and insurance consultancy operations as well as its human capital & benefits practice. You would ideally be based at Willis Towers Watson’s office in London, but consideration would be given to candidates who would prefer to be based in the Willis Towers Watson offices in Ipswich or Reigate.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities
  • The role will manage a stimulating and varied range of legal issues, contentious and non-contentious matters, with and without the assistance of local external counsel. It will require you to:
  • Provide timely and practical general commercial legal advice and services to the management team, business segments and corporate function colleagues in the CEEMEA region, in particular in Central and Eastern Europe.
  • Efficiently manage and negotiate a large volume and variety of standard and complex commercial agreements for the company’s business operations while balancing appropriate legal and business risks.
  • Rapidly assess potential legal and compliance risks, benefits and consequences of decisions, present alternatives and propose solutions to achieve business objectives while skilfully managing legal and practical business considerations.
  • Manage a varied range of often complex contentious matters.
  • Interface directly with client, vendor and other third party legal, procurement and contracting representatives, as well as internal management and staff.
  • Work with cross functional teams (client development, sales, strategy, marketing, IT, HR, finance, etc.) to achieve business objectives.
  • Support legal needs of the company’s business operations in CEEMEA. You will therefore have a willingness to travel within the region and elsewhere as required.
Experience / Requirements
  • You will be a qualified lawyer, licensed to practice in England or a CEEMEA jurisdiction. Outstanding academic credentials and work experience ideally gained from a leading specialist (re)insurance law firm and or in-house environment at a multi-national company.
  • At least 3 years’ post qualification legal experience. 
  • Ability to comprehend quickly the company’s CEEMEA business operations and legal needs.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster teamwork and maintain effective working relationships. You will need to be able to inspire confidence and be able to influence at all levels within the business.
  • Ability to take a commercial approach and to summarize key legal and business issues and alternatives for executive decisions.
  • Ability to remain calm and efficient in a pressurised environment.
  • A willingness to work within a large international organization as part of a virtual legal team. You will need to be a self-starter /strategic thinker with an ability to work independently albeit under overseas supervision.
  • Polish, Russian and/or French is essential 
Your experience will include at least some of the following:
  • Understanding legal issues surrounding governance of international consultancy, insurance and (re)insurance brokers’ products;
  • Researching and advising on regulatory and legal issues as they apply to brokers’ duties and obligations;
  • Drafting, negotiating, amending commercial agreements relating to the provision of consultancy, broker and agency services;
  • Providing general guidance to business operations on legal and regulatory issues arising out of the provision of consultancy, broking or agency services;
  • Managing and resolving contentious claims against brokers and consultancy services providers.
