The Business

Willis Towers Watson benefit consultants have deep experience working with organizations of all types and sizes. We’ve worked closely with clients to develop some of the most advanced benefit design techniques currently in use. We combine expertise in retirement and investment consulting to support organizations worldwide in designing, managing, administering and communicating all types of retirement plans.

Client teams within Willis Towers Watson are supported by a network of actuarial service centers across different regions. The Actuarial Valuation (AV) team is an internal service center that provides high quality and efficient valuation work for pension and post retirement plans for Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, Korea and other countries. Work performed by the team includes actuarial funding and accounting valuations, system implementation and migration, costings and others.

The Role

As a Sr. Actuarial Analyst, you will have the opportunity to enhance your core skills as well as your retirement plan knowledge by working on different retirement plans, preparing large complex client data, addressing questions, resolving data and plan issues and preparing client deliverables. Over time, you will get opportunities to serve as a project manager on more complex assignments, lead internal meetings and mentor junior staff.

Performance Objectives:



  • Prepare valuations of pension plans and retiree welfare plans for consulting offices
  • Respond to queries from consultants with respect to plan provisions and valuation results and resolve/escalate any problems or issues
  • Complete work in accordance with accounting standards and government regulations applicable to the plan
  • Utilize detailed tasks and steps to produce quality projects
  • Complete analysis and reconciliations of plan participant data
  • Reconcile plan assets
  • Manages the timeline for some small projects or components of larger projects.
  • Performs technical review of standard/complex projects.
  • Identifies and communicates technical/analytical issues to project teams.
  • Supervises new hires and less-experienced associates on project basis.
  • Allocates/co-ordinates work among project hires, interns and new associates
  • Actively participate in team and project planning and suggests improvements based on observed best practices.

  • Build relationships internally and collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrate natural ease and effectiveness when dealing with associates in other Towers Watson offices
  • Provides (ongoing) on-the-job training to project hires, interns and junior associates on routine projects, including basic tools, issues and concepts.
  • Mentors and manages junior associates in regards to budgets, timelines and Excellence standards.
  • Act as feedback provider on performance review of junior associates and new associates for regularization.



  • Work with Project Leader to ensure that each project is completed on time and meets quality standards
  • Respond to all requests and communications effectively and efficiently
  • Identifies and leads communication with consulting team on project results, providing analysis of results, potential issues and responding to inquiries.



  • Meet chargeable hours targets
  • Contribute to profitability by preparing project budgets, monitoring own time spent on project and maintaining accurate time records
  • Ensures projects are consistently correct, on-time and within budget. Notifies project manager of potential write-offs and identifies need to modify scope on a project to address unanticipated issues.
  • Increase efficiency within teams by identifying ways to improve processes


Job Requirements

The Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in a program with emphasis on mathematics, statistics, economics or accounting
  • Proven mathematical aptitude
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Well organized and detail oriented, effective time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to interact with colleagues at all levels
  • Strong analytical and integrative skills including the ability to draw conclusions and identify trends from data in a logical, systemic way
