The Global Research Unit (GRU) is part of the Research and Innovation Centre and supports the Global Services and Solutions and Global Data Services lines of business within Willis Towers Watson. The team is responsible for the content and production of Willis Towers Watson’s reports on the employment and benefits environments in more than 100 countries. Responsibility for the reports entails researching the local legal frameworks and operating environments, keeping abreast of news and developments, analysing surveys and market data, and updating the reports.
The role is that of a GRU researcher and writer working to understand, capture and translate complex issues around social security, employee pay and benefits and employment law into clear and concise summaries that help our clients keep on top of their regional or global responsibilities. The nature of the work requires exceptional:
- Communication and comprehension skills (in English)
- Attention to detail
- Capacity for learning (and interest in the same)
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Researchers must be able to work independently, on their own initiative, while also collaborating with GRU team members and colleagues around the world on a routine basis. The GRU provides market intelligence for clients and colleagues and as such, researchers must be adept at providing prompt and direct assistance. It should be noted that the GRU is a virtual unit, meaning that the team does not physically sit together. Candidates should be comfortable with a working environment where their immediate colleagues may be a good or great distance away.It is imperative that researchers develop strong project management skills due to the global scope of the team’s responsibilities and deadlines. The unit routinely coordinates the work of multiple parties in the course of report production. Researchers must be comfortable having their work reviewed and edited regularly as part of a well-defined process for achieving professional excellence.

Candidates should have a background in employee compensation and benefits or labour law and an interest in international business.
In addition to possessing the talents necessary to fulfil the demands of the role outlined above, candidates should also have:
- A university degree
- Excellent reading, comprehension and writing skills (in English)
- A level of numeracy appropriate for a professional (subject to testing)
- Demonstrable cross-cultural, communication skills
- Strong skills in MS Office (MS Word and Excel) and internet search tools
- Foreign language skills (desirable but not essential)
- Experience with cross-border business
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a research, consulting or human resources environment
